A well-established and highly regarded ecological consultancy is seeking a Senior or Principal Ecologist to join its growing team. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality ecological advice across the public, private and voluntary sectors, the business has secured a robust pipeline of projects extending into 2026 and beyond. The organisation operates across a diverse portfolio, including infrastructure, renewable energy, forestry, and residential developments, and offers a collaborative and supportive working environment.
In this role, you will take on a key position within the team, combining technical expertise, project management, and leadership responsibilities. You will be responsible for delivering a variety of ecological services, while supporting junior staff and contributing to business development activities.
Key duties will include:
- Leading the delivery of ecological projects from inception to completion
- Producing and reviewing technical reports, including PEAs and EcIAs
- Designing and managing habitat and protected species surveys
- Managing client relationships, project budgets, and timelines
- Providing line management and mentoring support
- Assisting with tender submissions and preparation of RAMS
What you'll need to succeed:
- A degree in Ecology or a related discipline
- Eligibility for membership of CIEEM
- Strong knowledge of UK (particularly Scottish) wildlife and legislation
- Proven experience in ecological consultancy, including report writing (PEA, EcIA, protected species)
- Demonstrable project management and people management experience
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Specialist expertise in ornithology or botany
- Strong field survey experience
