A respected organisation operating within the lifting equipment, hoisting and engineered lifting solutions sector is seeking a Senior Technical Adviser/Lead AP to provide high-level technical guidance across the organisation and the wider industry. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an experienced technical professional with strong credibility and practical industry knowledge. You will act as a subject-matter expert, supporting internal teams and industry stakeholders with clear, practical interpretation of technical standards, best practice and compliance requirements. The role is ideally hybrid-based from Huntingdon. However, remote working will be considered for the right individual, provided they are able to travel to the Huntingdon office for meetings and key engagements when required.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert technical advice and guidance on industry-related technical matters, standards and best practice.
- Act as a recognised subject-matter expert for colleagues, customers, members and external stakeholders.
- Review, interpret and clearly communicate technical requirements in a practical and commercially aware manner.
- Support the development of technical guidance, advisory documents and publications.
- Respond to technical enquiries with accurate, timely and solutions-focused advice.
- Contribute to training activity, presentations, webinars and industry events as required.
- Represent the organisation professionally with industry bodies, technical groups and stakeholders.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and emerging technical issues.
- Work collaboratively across technical, training and advisory functions.
What you'll need to succeed
- Significant hands-on experience within the lifting equipment and engineered lifting sector, potentially having worked as an Appointed Person or equivalent.
- Ideally experience from a big tier 1 or 2 contractor.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience interpreting industry standards, guidance and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrable experience working with lifting equipment and associated machinery, including but not limited to:
- Lifting appliances (manual and powered)
- Cranes (mobile, tower, bridge, gantry, jib and loader cranes)
- Hoists, winches and lifting accessories
- Slings, chains, shackles and lifting points
- Crane supporting structures, runways, monorails and gantries
- Load handling attachments, lifting beams, spreaders and frames
- Inspection, testing, maintenance, modification and commissioning of lifting equipment
- Ability to provide clear, practical advice to experienced technical audiences.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence and credibility when engaging with senior industry professionals.
- Well organised, self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities.
Desirable experience
- Previous experience in a technical advisory, inspection, engineering or standards-focused role.
- Experience working with industry bodies, member organisations or technical committees.
- Training delivery or presentation experience.
- Ability to travel to Huntingdon on a regular basis.
