Your new company is a well-established and highly regarded environmental consultancy seeking to appoint a Senior or Principal Ornithologist to support continued growth within its ecology team. Your new role involves playing a key role in delivering ornithological consultancy services across a broad range of projects. Depending on your level of experience, you will take responsibility for project leadership, technical delivery, and client engagement. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ornithologist looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and forward-thinking consultancy.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and delivering a range of ornithological surveys, including vantage point, breeding, and wintering bird surveys
  • Analysing survey data and producing high-quality technical reports
  • Leading ornithological input into EcIAs, EIAs, and HRAs
  • Managing projects, including budgets, timelines, and client communication
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring junior team members
  • Supporting business development activities, including tender preparation

What you'll need to succeed:

  • A degree in ecology or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in UK ornithological survey work and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of bird legislation, policy, and guidance
  • Proven ability to manage projects (Senior level) or lead projects and teams (Principal level)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIEEM)
  • Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects
  • Protected species survey licences
  • GIS experience
