A leading multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Manchester-based design team. This is a high-trust, autonomous role reporting directly to the Head of Design, offering the chance to work across complex projects in the healthcare, leisure, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.
You will be joining a collaborative, technically driven environment where peer reviews are a large part of the workload in a team size of 10-12 (Design team with a wider 60+ technical group).
What You’ll Be Doing- Lead mechanical design and technical delivery across a range of UK and international projects
- Conduct peer reviews and support junior engineers with technical guidance
- Collaborate with electrical counterparts and validation teams to troubleshoot and optimise building performance
- Engage in client-side conversations, offering clear, confident advice and technical insight
- Work on bids and proposals with Tier 1 contractors and advisory groups
- Uphold compliance, sustainability, and value engineering principles across all workstreams
- Operate with autonomy while contributing to daily team meetings and shared design reviews
- 6-7+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design
- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and sector-specific standards
- Experience in healthcare, leisure, or commercial sectors preferred - but not essential
- Confidence in peer reviewing and managing technical outputs
- A "safe pair of hands" - self-sufficient, transparent, and not afraid to ask questions
- Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
- Familiarity with software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Hevacomp, IES, and relevant design tools
