A leading global engineering consultancy is expanding its Building Services team and is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-profile, technically complex projects across the UK and internationally. You\’ll be joining a forward-thinking organisation known for engineering excellence, digital innovation, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
Your new role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the development of mechanical building services solutions across a diverse project portfolio, including commercial, residential, mission-critical, education, defence, and major infrastructure schemes. You will contribute to concept design, detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and coordinated MEP solutions while guiding more junior engineers and supporting multidisciplinary design teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading mechanical design packages from concept to delivery
- Producing calculations, performance specifications, and technical documentation
- Coordinating designs with internal MEP teams and external stakeholders
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, legislation, and best practices
- Supporting digital workflows including BIM/Revit environments
- Attending design meetings, presenting technical solutions, and managing client relationships
- Mentoring and developing junior team members
- Contributing to bids, fee proposals, and resource planning
What you\’ll need to succeed
- Extensive mechanical building services design experience at Senior Engineer level
- Strong technical knowledge across HVAC, public health, thermal modelling, sustainable design, and low-carbon technologies
- Proven experience delivering multi-sector projects through all RIBA stages
- Proficiency with design software such as IES, Hevacomp, and relevant digital tools
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Chartered status (CEng) or working towards chartership is highly advantageous
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to influence design outcomes
