Our client is a leading civil engineering contractor delivering complex infrastructure and energy projects across Scotland, based in Glasgow. They are looking for the services of a Civil Engineering Manager, who has experience in design, construction, and delivery of high-value projects for major clients.
This is not a traditional site-based Civil Engineering Manager; they are looking for a senior leader who will oversee the civil engineering function across their Power & Renewables division. Essentially, you will act as a head of civil engineering, technical manager, or civil engineering lead on their power and renewable energy projects rather than someone running one project on site.
The ideal candidate would likely have:
- Strong civil engineering background in power, utilities, renewables, substations, transmission, distribution, energy, or major infrastructure projects
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Previous responsibility for leading teams and developing engineers
- Strong understanding of:
- Earthworks
- Drainage
- Roads and access infrastructure
- Civil structures
- Site investigation and ground conditions
- Experience contributing to tenders and pre-construction
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of project risk
What you will be doing?
Rather than managing day-to-day site operations, the successful person will:
- Lead the civil engineering strategy for the business.
- Manage and mentor civil engineering teams.
- Oversee civil design consultants.
- Review civil designs and ensure they're buildable and commercially viable.
- Support bid submissions and tendering activities.
- Advise project teams on technical and construction issues.
- Interface with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Ensure consistency, quality and best practice across all projects.
Candidates who would suit this role are currently working as:
- Civil Engineering Manager
- Regional Engineering Manager
- Engineering Manager
- Design Manager (Civil)
- Principal Civil Engineer
- Senior Project Manager with a strong technical civil background
- Technical Director
- Head of Civil Engineering
This is a strategic leadership appointment rather than a delivery role. The emphasis throughout is on:
- leadership
- standards
- tender input
- technical governance
- design management
- commercial influence
- developing teams
You would be able to sit comfortably with directors, clients, designers, and project teams and take ownership of the civil engineering function across their Scottish/UK Power & Renewables portfolio.
If this senior role would be of interest to you, and you feel you have the correct experience and gravitas to take on this exciting strategic role, please do not hesitate to contact me on the details below.
NOTE: You need to have UK experience and a valid RTW in the UK to be considered.
