Southend-on-Sea City Council are looking to appoint a full-time, agency Senior Building Control Officer for a 6-month contract, working 5 days a week. Daily rate £400.00.
The successful candidate, under the direction of the Building Control Team Leader, will assist in the effective delivery of the building control function and ensure that the Council's obligations under the Building Act and associated legislation with regards to health, safety, welfare and convenience of persons in or about buildings are administered and enforced.
They will assist in management, training and development of the trainees and assistants, acting in their absence on all relevant matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Checking building regulation applications for compliance within the required timescales.
- Carrying out site inspections in a prompt, efficient and safe manner, ensuring site notes are recorded promptly and accurately.
- Checking fire safety strategies and completing enforcement actions where necessary.
- Providing specialist and technical advice to developers.
- Being responsible for the safety equipment provided.
Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available. However, you are required to be on-site at the Civic Centre a minimum of 2 days a week.
To be successful in this position, you must be qualified to degree level and have obtained part-professional membership, plus have proven building control experience. You must demonstrate sound knowledge of building control regulations and have an understanding of the building process. Good administrative skills and the ability to maintain accurate, comprehensive records are essential.
It is also essential that you hold a full, current, valid driving licence and have use of a suitable vehicle for business purposes.
