As Category Manager, you will provide a professional procurement service from the organisation’s site in Scunthorpe. You will develop and maintain the commercial frameworks required to support business operations, secure best value and protect continuity of supply.
You will take day-to-day responsibility for strategic contracts and supplier relationships. Working as part of the Procurement team, you will provide category management support across the full procure-to-pay (P2P) process and deliver a robust, reliable and commercially focused service.
The position requires you to understand business-led requirements and translate them into effective procurement activity. You will work with stakeholders at all levels, balancing cost, quality, flexibility and security of supply. You will also contribute to people and stakeholder management across the procurement function.
The industry continues to change, so you will need to think quickly and respond creatively to developing customer and business requirements. This role suits an experienced procurement professional who can take ownership of their workload while contributing effectively within a wider team.
What you'll need to succeed
- You will have previous experience in procurement, category management, strategic contract management or supplier relationship management.
- You will be degree qualified, or hold an equivalent qualification, in a relevant discipline.
- Membership of CIPS, or progress towards a CIPS qualification, is preferred.
- You should understand procurement processes and have experience supporting activities across the P2P cycle.
- You will need strong organisational skills, close attention to detail and the ability to prioritise competing requirements.
- A proactive approach is important, along with the self-motivation to work independently and the flexibility to adapt as the role develops.
- Clear communication skills will allow you to build productive working relationships and engage confidently with stakeholders at different levels.
- You should also be IT literate and experienced in using Microsoft Office software.
