Hays are delighted to be partnering with a well-established and highly diverse organisation in South Ayrshire to recruit an Assistant Accountant.This is a complex and fast-paced environment where finance plays a critical role in supporting a wide range of commercial activities. The organisation is investing in its finance function and has created this position to provide greater support across the team, improve resilience and ensure key finance processes continue to operate effectively. The hours of work are Monday-Friday 9am - 5.30pm, but there is also flexibility offered with start and finish times. Compressed hours can also be considered. This is a primarily office-based role and the organisation can be accessed easily by public transport, there is also on-site parking.

Your New Role

\n

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working as part of a collaborative finance team, you will undertake a varied role that combines accounting responsibilities with broader financial support across the business.This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their workload and is comfortable supporting multiple areas of finance.Key responsibilities will include:

• Preparation and posting of journals.
\n
• Supporting month-end and management accounting activities.
\n
• Financial analysis and reporting.
\n
• Managing weekly contract-related financial processing.
\n
• Supporting utility accounting and associated financial administration.
\n
• Managing finance administration linked to a commercial property portfolio.
\n
• Providing cover across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing and Credit Control functions when required.
\n
• Balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance of financial records.
\n
• Assisting with process improvements and strengthening cross-functional support within the finance team.
\n
• Supporting ad hoc projects and operational finance requirements.
\n

What You'll Need to Succeed

\n

\n
• Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Senior Finance Assistant, Bookkeeper or similar finance role.
\n
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and transactional finance processes.
\n
• Experience preparing journals and reconciliations.
\n
• Good analytical and Excel skills.
\n
• Ability to work independently whilst supporting a wider finance team.
\n
• Adaptable, proactive and willing to gain exposure across multiple finance disciplines.
\n
• Experience within a logistics, operational or commercial environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
\n
