The Diocese of Chichester are seeking a Maintenance Surveyor to join our Property Team based in Hove. The Diocese of Chichester covers East and West Sussex, supporting over 500 churches and associated buildings. As an organisation, the diocese provides structures for clergy support, education, safeguarding, community engagement, and strategic development, working through committees and teams at Church House to equip local churches in pursuing its mission of faith, service, and spiritual growth.
Our Property Team ensures that clergy housing is safe, well‑maintained, and fit for modern ministry. We are committed to high standards, strong teamwork, and serving the wider mission of the Church.
We are now looking for an experienced and proactive Maintenance Surveyor to play a key role in overseeing properties across our West region. This is a hybrid role requiring attendance at our Hove office 1–2 days per week, along with travel to properties throughout West Sussex as needed.
The Role
As a Maintenance Surveyor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and upkeep of the diocesan clergy housing portfolio, with a particular focus on the west region of the Diocese of Chichester. This is a pivotal role that ensures our properties remain safe, well-maintained, and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of clergy housing and properties across West Sussex.
- Diagnose building defects, recommend solutions, and manage repairs from initial inspection through to completion.
- Work closely with residents, contractors, consultants, and colleagues to ensure high-quality, customer-focused service.
- Take responsibility for the diocesan five-year electrical testing programme.
- Support quinquennial maintenance planning and improvement works.
- Assist in preparing properties for occupation and managing void properties.
- Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, including health & safety and safeguarding.
What You'll Need
- A construction related qualification (e.g. HND) or significant relevant experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of construction and maintenance working within housing.
- Experience of investigating, diagnosing, and specifying building defects and repairs.
- Proficient in producing condition reports and schedules of work.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and use initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer facing skills.
