We have a new opportunity for an experienced maintenance engineer working for a manufacturing business in Diss. You will be working nights Monday to Friday.

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will provide hands-on engineering support to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant machinery within a high-volume manufacturing environment. Working as part of the night shift engineering team, you will:

  • Diagnose faults, carry out planned and reactive maintenance, and support continuous improvement across mechanical, electrical, and process systems.
  • Respond to breakdowns quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on conveyors, mixers, grinders, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and automated plant equipment.
  • Perform electrical maintenance tasks, including fault-finding on control panels, sensors, motors, and basic PLC diagnostics (no programming required unless relevant).
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and recommending engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, and environmental standards at all times.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using the site's CMMS or logbooks.
  • Work safely and follow all site procedures, including lock-off/tag-out, permit-to-work, and confined-space protocols.
  • Collaborate with production teams to optimise machine performance and reduce unplanned stoppages.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of new equipment or upgrades.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Time-served or formally qualified engineer (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
  • Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, milling, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong mechanical skills: bearings, belts, chains, welding/fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatics.
  • Solid electrical competence: motors, sensors, control panels, fault-finding.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Understanding of health & safety, food/feed safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
