HMP Huntercombe is a Category C men's prison located in Nuffield, Oxfordshire. The establishment exclusively houses foreign national offenders, typically those nearing the end of their custodial sentences and awaiting deportation. Originally constructed as an internment camp during World War II, the site opened as a prison in 1946 and has since evolved into a specialist facility with a capacity of approximately 400-480 inmates.
As an Electrician, you will carry out installations, testing and commissioning of electrical systems in line with statutory regulations and industry best practice. You will complete planned maintenance, respond to CAFM-generated service requests, and ensure tasks are prioritised effectively.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising prisoners during work and training activities.
- Completing maintenance and inspection tasks, including in confined spaces and at height.
- Managing stock levels and requesting materials as required.
- Escorting and supervising contractors under the Local Security Strategy (LSS).
- Maintaining regular radio communication in line with LSS.
- Accepting appointments as a competent/authorised person under GFSL safe systems of work.
- Driving estate vehicles and operating plant equipment (where qualified).
- Completing locking duties when required.
- Undertaking urgent/emergency tasks within agreed timescales.
- Supporting tool inventory control and maintaining security standards.
- Promoting excellent customer service and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety legislation, including acting as Fire Warden or First Aider if required.
Hours: Monday to Friday full time
PAYE: £25.96 per hour inclusive of holiday
UMB: £30.39 p/h
The ideal candidate will have the below:
Essential:
- Minimum of two years' experience working as an electrician.
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services or equivalent.
- BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition).
Desirable:
- Experience with electrical installations aligned to wiring regulations and industry best practice.
- Experience in commercial or industrial electrical systems.
- Understanding of planned preventive maintenance (PPM).
- L8 Legionella awareness (training can be provided).
