A well-established and highly regarded environmental consultancy is seeking to appoint a Senior or Principal Ornithologist to support continued growth within its ecology team. With a strong pipeline of projects across sectors including renewable energy, infrastructure, and development, this organisation is known for delivering high-quality, pragmatic environmental solutions to a diverse client base.
You will play a key role in delivering ornithological consultancy services across a broad range of projects. Depending on your level of experience, you will take responsibility for project leadership, technical delivery, and client engagement. Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering a range of ornithological surveys, including vantage point, breeding, and wintering bird surveys
- Analysing survey data and producing high-quality technical reports
- Leading ornithological input into EcIAs, EIAs, and HRAs
- Managing projects, including budgets, timelines, and client communication
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring junior team members
- Supporting business development activities, including tender preparation
What you'll need to succeed:
- A degree in ecology or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in UK ornithological survey work and reporting
- Strong knowledge of bird legislation, policy, and guidance
- Proven ability to manage projects (Senior level) or lead projects and teams (Principal level)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIEEM)
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects
- Protected species survey licences
- GIS experience
