Your new company

Hays are proud to be partnering with a growing, values-led organisation to appoint an experienced Finance Director. Operating across complex contractual and service-driven environments, the organisation has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality outcomes, maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships and driving sustainable growth. This is a unique opportunity to join an ambitious business at a pivotal stage in its development. With a strong focus on operational excellence, commercial performance and continuous improvement, the organisation is seeking a strategic and commercially astute finance leader who can provide financial direction, support future growth and contribute to wider business success.

Your new role

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Director will take overall responsibility for the operational management of the organisation’s finances, ensuring continued financial health, compliance, commercial performance and sustainable growth. You will lead the finance function and play a key role within the senior leadership team, providing strategic financial insight to support business decision-making and future development. The role encompasses leadership of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial reporting, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely management information. You will present financial performance and strategic insights to senior stakeholders, lead relationships with auditors and advisors, and maintain robust governance, compliance and risk management processes across the organisation.

A significant aspect of the position will involve the development of sophisticated commercial models to support pricing strategies, bids, cost management and long-term planning. Working closely with colleagues across the business, you will help drive operational efficiency, improve reporting capabilities and support data-led decision-making. You will also lead and develop a high-performing finance team, promoting a collaborative and values-driven culture.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified accountant holding ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent professional finance qualification, supported by degree-level education or comparable professional experience. You will bring significant experience operating in a senior finance leadership capacity and possess strong technical expertise across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, commercial analysis and management accounting. You will have a proven ability to develop sophisticated financial models, interpret complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations that influence business performance and growth. Strong leadership skills are essential, together with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and build productive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be highly organised, commercially minded and capable of managing competing priorities within a fast-paced environment. A commitment to values-led leadership, team development and continuous improvement will be key to success in the role. Experience within the energy efficiency, heating or insulation sectors would be advantageous, although it is not essential.

What you'll get in return

In return, you will join an organisation where your contribution will have a direct impact on both organisational success and positive social outcomes. You will be offered a highly visible leadership role with the opportunity to influence strategic direction, drive financial performance and support continued growth across the business. The organisation offers a competitive salary package, dependent on skills and experience, alongside flexible working arrangements based in Edinburgh, 25 days annual leave plus 9 public holidays, and the opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative environment that values innovation, leadership and professional development.
