A contractor delivering works on a National Grid substation project in Melksham is seeking an experienced Civil Operative with the required National Grid authorisations to support live-site operations. This is a key role ensuring safe and compliant access within a high-voltage substation environment.
The Role
As a Civil Operative on a live HV substation, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe, compliant and controlled movement of personnel, vehicles and plant. Responsibilities include:
- Managing access and egress to a live National Grid substation
- Working strictly in accordance with NG NSI Safety Rules
- Acting as Competent Person under NSI 6 & 8
- Ensuring safe access/egress for delivery vehicles and site plant
- Supporting all groundwork-related activity as required
- Maintaining safe working practices in a high-risk environment
Essential Requirements
- Civil Operative - Competent Person (NSI 6 & 8)
- Experience working in or around HV substations
- Understanding of safe access control on National Grid sites
- Ability to follow NG safety procedures and strict permit systems
- Manual Handling certification (Mandatory)
- Experience aligned with general groundworker duties
Desirable Skills
- Previous National Grid or power-sector site experience
- Strong awareness of HSG 47 (Avoiding Danger from Underground Services)
- Good communication and coordination skills
