Your new role

As a Mechanical Day Technician, you will be responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance on gantry crane equipment within a busy container handling environment. This is a days-based role, focused on ensuring the ongoing reliability, availability, and safe performance of critical lifting and handling assets.

You will carry out maintenance activities in line with safe systems of work, actively contributing to a strong safety culture across all operations. Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you will communicate equipment condition, breakdowns, and parts or materials requirements in a timely and accurate manner.

The role includes responding to operational breakdowns, diagnosing faults, and completing repairs efficiently and safely to minimise downtime. You will also be expected to complete required training as necessary and demonstrate flexibility in developing additional skills where position is classified as safety critical and may involve activities such as driving on site, working at height, working in confined spaces, operating plant, manual handling, lone working, and night work. Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-placement medical assessment to confirm fitness for the role.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong mechanical engineering background, ideally with experience on container handling or gantry crane equipment. You will also require:

  • A minimum ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding, and repair experience
  • A good understanding of modern maintenance strategies such as RCM, FMECA, CBM, and TPM
  • Experience working with motors and variable speed controllers
  • The ability to work safely in a high-risk, operational environment
  • A full and valid UK driving licence

What you'll get in return

  • 26 days annual leave
  • Pension scheme with up to 10% matched employer contribution
  • A flexible benefits platform, including options such as car schemes, healthcare cash plans, cycle-to-work, gym membership, retail vouchers, and additional insurance products
  • Strong commitment to training, upskilling, and long-term career development
  • Employee Assistance Programme offering confidential support for physical and mental wellbeing

This is an excellent opportunity to secure a long-term, days-based engineering role within a critical infrastructure environment, working on large-scale, technically challenging equipment with strong progression and development support.
