Based in Glasgow, our client is a global leader in high-precision manufacturing for the semiconductor and geological science industries. Recent investment has been made in new production systems to support their future growth, which has resulted in a vacancy for an experienced mechanical design engineer with solid calculation experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join this market-leading precision materials technology company. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this position will be responsible for:

  • Devising and developing new complex designs for industrial machinery and modifying existing designs in partnership with their electrical and electronic engineers
  • Producing accurate detailed design documentation using 3D CAD to allow for manufacturing and assembly, so the product becomes legally compliant
  • Building and testing of prototypes
  • Identifying and evaluating new materials, methods and suppliers
  • Improving product quality
  • Calculation experience, so assessments of design are carried out to ensure the product is safe prior to assembly
  • Providing cross-functional technical support

KEY REQUIREMENT - This is not simply a design role for creating visual designs and how they are put together - but experience in evaluating designs through calculations to ensure the designs are safe, able to handle the loads they are being subjected to and fit for purpose is essential.

Ideal Skills and qualifications:

  • Qualified to degree level or similar in a Mechanical design or Product design engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in a mechanical design role with an emphasis on calculation experience
  • Experience of designing within a high-value, low-volume manufacturing environment
  • Experience in the design of electro-pneumatic and electro-mechanical systems
  • Substantial 3D CAD experience, Solidworks preferred
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Able to work with a cross-functional team

In return, the successful candidate will join a world-leading, long-established company, where your efforts will be recognised and rewarded through an excellent benefits package. If you are a Mechanical Design Engineer who is looking for an exciting new challenge, and interested in joining a highly driven team - please contact me on the details below to discuss your current situation confidentially and if the role might be of interest.
