Overview

In this role you will provide independent legal and procedural guidance on complaints, investigations and professional conduct matters within a regulated profession. You will work closely with complaints, governance and legal colleagues to ensure cases are prepared thoroughly, fairly, and in line with established procedures. You will identify gaps, advise on governance, safeguarding, data protection and regulatory standards, and participate in hearings to support fair outcomes. The role offers remote working and a clear impact on professional standards, policy development and continuous improvement in governance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Review complaints, investigations and case papers in preparation for hearings and decision-making panels
  • Advise on professional conduct, procedural fairness, evidential issues and regulatory standards
  • Identify gaps in investigations and recommend further enquiries
  • Attend hearings and panels to provide independent legal and procedural advice
  • Review determinations, outcome letters and decisions for legal and procedural accuracy
  • Advise on governance, safeguarding, equality, data protection and risk-related issues
  • Contribute to development of policies, procedures, guidance materials and training programmes

Key requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive in England & Wales
  • Experience handling complaints, investigations, disciplinary or professional conduct matters
  • Knowledge of regulatory, tribunal or professional disciplinary processes
  • Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to review and assess complex evidence and provide clear advice
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Collaborative and able to work remotely
  • Knowledge of governance, safeguarding, equality and data protection principles
