Engineering Lead - Risk & Controls Up to £515 p/d (Inside IR35)Hybrid Working6 months initially My client is a leading consultancy seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to support the Risk & Controls workstream within a large-scale enterprise transformation programme.
You'll be responsible for providing technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, driving engineering standards, supporting BB Application enhancements, and ensuring technology solutions align with regulatory, risk, compliance, and governance requirements.
Provide engineering leadership and technical oversight across multiple delivery teams within the Risk & Controls workstream.
Define, implement, and enforce engineering standards, development processes, risk controls, and architecture best practices.
Ensure engineering teams adhere to coding standards, deployment practices, security requirements, operational controls, and governance frameworks.
Assess the impact of regulatory changes on applications, engineering processes, operational controls, and delivery practices.
Work closely with risk, compliance, audit, architecture, and product teams to ensure technology solutions meet enterprise and regulatory requirements.
Act as the senior technical escalation point for engineering challenges, controls-related issues, and critical production incidents.
Support complex integrations across enterprise systems, risk platforms, controls frameworks, and external applications.
Design and guide implementation of scalable integration solutions across APIs, middleware, event-driven platforms, and external systems.
Drive best practices across software engineering, Dev Ops, resiliency, observability, operational excellence, audit readiness, and governance.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and hands-on technical guidance to engineering teams.
Contribute directly to troubleshooting, prototyping, implementation, and technical delivery activities where required.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering practices, controls frameworks, and tooling.
Proven experience as an Engineering Lead, Technical Lead, Principal Engineer, or similar senior technical leadership role.
Strong background in backend software engineering and enterprise integration.
Experience designing and implementing APIs, microservices, middleware solutions, and event-driven architectures.
Experience integrating enterprise platforms, risk systems, controls frameworks, and business-critical applications.
Strong understanding of regulatory, risk, and compliance requirements within banking or financial services environments.
Experience supporting applications impacted by regulatory, governance, or compliance-driven changes.
Knowledge of technology risk management, audit requirements, operational controls, and highly governed delivery environments.
Strong experience with AWS and cloud-native application architectures.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and Dev Ops best practices.
Strong proficiency in Python and/or other modern backend programming languages.
Experience building resilient, scalable, secure, and operationally mature enterprise applications.
Strong understanding of testing strategies, software quality assurance, secure coding practices, and release governance.
Desirable: Experience within Banking, Financial Services, or large-scale transformation programmes.
Experience supporting regulated applications, risk technology platforms, or compliance-driven initiatives.
Knowledge of observability, monitoring, logging, and control monitoring frameworks.
Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
Exposure to AI-enabled engineering tools, automation frameworks, or developer productivity tooling.
