The Opportunity

You have spent years doing the work. Designing assessment frameworks, running leadership diagnostics, helping organisations understand their people more clearly. You know what good looks like and you are increasingly aware that the real leverage is upstream, in the conversations that shape what clients commission in the first place.

Hays Assessment & Development is looking for a Senior Consultant to lead the commercial growth of our A&D practice. This is a rare role that sits at the intersection of people science and business development. You will bring genuine expertise in assessment and development and use it to build the kind of client relationships that turn that expertise into a growing revenue line.

This is not a transactional sales role. You will lead expert-level client conversations, shape bespoke interventions and translate real organisational challenges into compelling, evidence-based solutions. You will have genuine influence over what Hays takes to market, and the platform to build multi-year partnerships with the clients you bring on.

What you'll do:

  • Commercial development and client growth
  • Build and own a high-quality pipeline across HR, Talent, OD and business leadership communities
  • Lead the full sales cycle from opening conversations through to solution design, proposal and close
  • Drive year-on-year revenue growth with a deliberate focus on recurring A&D programmes rather than one-off projects
  • Expand existing accounts by embedding psychometrics, leadership assessments and development pathways into long-term client relationships

Client discovery and needs analysis

  • Lead expert-level discovery conversations to surface pain points around leadership capability, succession, DEI, workforce productivity and future skills
  • Use your practitioner knowledge to ask the questions that uncover what clients do not yet know they need
  • Translate ambiguous organisational challenges into clearly scoped, commercially viable solutions

Solution design and proposition development

  • Design solutions spanning leadership and executive assessment, succession reviews, top-team effectiveness, capability frameworks and development pathways
  • Build commercial cases that link people outcomes to business performance, ones you can defend in the room
  • Work with Hays specialist delivery teams to ensure what you sell can be delivered to the standard your clients will expect

What we're looking for:

Essential:

  • A background in assessment, OD, people consultancy or leadership advisory. You understand the practice, not just the pitch
  • Experience shaping client engagements, contributing to proposals or playing a role in practice growth, even if full commercial ownership is a step up from where you are now
  • Confidence engaging HR Directors, Talent leaders and C-suite sponsors at a peer level
  • Strong commercial instinct and genuine ambition to own a revenue line

Valuable but not essential:

  • Hands-on experience with psychometrics, assessment centres or leadership diagnostics
  • Exposure to business development, account management or proposal activity in a professional services or boutique consultancy setting
  • Experience of assessment for development, not only for hiring

Why this role is different:

  • Your expertise is the product. You are not selling a platform, you are selling judgment, methodology and outcomes
  • You will have genuine influence over proposition development and what Hays takes to market
  • This is a role that rewards consultative depth, not just pipeline volume
  • You will operate with the backing of a major brand and the agility of a growing specialist practice

Our culture is driven by our valued behaviours; at Hays we encourage everyone to be:

  • Be bold and curious: we are ambitious, push outside our comfort zone and experiment
  • Own the outcomes: we strive for performance, see things through & always act with integrity
  • Be better together: we support, celebrate and share with each other to create stronger outcomes for all
  • Champion the customer: we proactively partner with our customers to build better, profitable solutions

What you will get in return:

  • Culture built on rewarding success and the opportunity to influence your earning potential
  • Best technology in the industry and a renowned training programme to support success and drive rapid career progression and ongoing development
  • Flexible hybrid working patterns
  • Opportunity to take your career globally
  • Incentives and rewards to recognise performance both locally, regionally and nationally
  • Broad range of employee wellbeing initiatives and benefits
  • Referral bonus scheme
  • Community of support networks from Hays Pride to Parents@Hays
  • Paid charity day for all employees #HaysHelps and working closely with charity partners

At Hays, we know that diverse teams deliver better results, and that inclusion fuels our innovation. We’re committed to building a culture where different perspectives are embraced and where all of our people can flourish.

As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we see Diversity, Equity & Inclusion not just as the right thing to do but also as a business advantage. We welcome applicants from talented people of all backgrounds who want to grow with us & contribute to our shared success.
