Overview
In this role, you will join an investment management firm to advance its portfolio technology by adding an AI layer. You will work on designing and delivering secure backend services that integrate AI capabilities for the wider team. The role combines AI development, data integration, and production delivery with a focus on reliability, security, and measurable performance. You will collaborate with product and engineering colleagues to ship iterative improvements that enhance decision-making and user impact.

Responsibilities
- Design, build and deliver backend services and APIs for the AI layer
- Develop controlled data integrations with internal and external sources ensuring current, traceable outputs
- Collaborate with Frontend Engineer to connect AI to the user interface and set delivery priorities
- Implement security controls including permissions, audit logging and safeguards for sensitive data
- Establish automated tests and AI evaluations; monitor accuracy, reliability, latency and cost in production
- Release iteratively, incorporate user feedback, and document the systems
Key requirements
- 5+ years of experience in software, machine learning or data engineering with production delivery experience
- Strong Python skills and backend/API/data pipeline experience; SQL is valuable
- Hands-on experience with LLM applications (agent workflows, tool use, retrieval, RAG) and connecting models to trusted data
- Experience deploying and operating applications on a major cloud platform; solid CI/CD, automated testing and monitoring approach
- Understanding of AI evaluation, access controls, data protection and auditability with sensitive data
- Ability to make pragmatic architectural decisions and explain trade-offs to stakeholders
- Experience in investment management, wealth management, fintech or data-sensitive environments is advantageous but production AI delivery is key
