A leading Independent IT Infrastructure and Services Consultancy are looking for Project Managers to support with the delivery of complex IT infrastructure and cloud platform initiatives, with a strong focus on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) upgrade and lifecycle management projects.

6-month contract, Inside IR35, £500 per day, Hybrid/ London.

You will be responsible for driving end-to-end project execution across hybrid cloud environments, ensuring successful delivery of business-critical upgrades while minimising operational risk and disruption.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery
    • Lead full lifecycle delivery of infrastructure and cloud platform projects (initiation through to closure).
    • Manage VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) upgrade programmes, including planning, execution, and governance.
    • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and milestones.
    • Ensure adherence to project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid).
  • Upgrade & Migration Management
    • Plan and coordinate complex infrastructure upgrades, including VCF lifecycle management (LCM).
    • Oversee environment readiness, testing phases (SIT/UAT), and cutover activities.
    • Develop rollback and contingency strategies to mitigate operational risk.
    • Manage dependencies across compute, storage, and network components.
  • Stakeholder & Communication Management
    • Engage with senior stakeholders, including CIO/CTO, infrastructure leads, and business units.
    • Provide clear and concise status reporting, including risks, issues, and progress updates.
    • Facilitate governance forums, steering committees, and decision-making processes.
  • Technical Coordination
    • Work closely with architects, engineers, and cloud teams to ensure alignment on design and delivery.
    • Translate technical requirements into actionable project deliverables.
    • Ensure integration across VMware components including vSphere, vSAN, and NSX.
  • Vendor & Partner Management
    • Manage third-party vendors, system integrators, and cloud providers.
    • Ensure delivery against Statements of Work (SOWs) and contractual commitments.
    • Coordinate multi-vendor activities across complex environments.
  • Risk & Compliance
    • Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks and issues.
    • Ensure adherence to change management and governance processes (CAB).
    • Maintain compliance with security and regulatory standards.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Core Experience
    • Proven experience delivering IT infrastructure and cloud platform projects.
    • Hands-on experience managing VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) upgrades or similar virtualised environments.
    • Strong understanding of enterprise data centre technologies and hybrid cloud architecture.
  • Technical Knowledge
    • VMware stack: vSphere, ESXi, vSAN, NSX.
    • Infrastructure: compute, storage, networking (LAN/WAN).
    • Cloud platforms: Azure, AWS, or GCP (hybrid integration preferred).
    • Upgrade and migration methodologies in enterprise environments.
  • Project Management
    • Strong knowledge of project management frameworks (PRINCE2, PMP, Agile).
    • Expertise in RAID management, planning, budgeting, and reporting.
    • Experience using tools such as MS Project, Jira, or Azure DevOps.
  • Soft Skills
    • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
    • Ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
    • High attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • VMware certification (VCP, VCAP).
    • Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS).
    • ITIL certification (Foundation or higher).
