You will be working for a leading specialist law firm with a recognised reputation in family and children law. The firm advises clients on a wide range of family matters including divorce and international family law cases. Responsibilities include:
- Managing legal aid billing and cost recovery, ensuring compliance with LAA requirements and procedural rules.
- Preparing and submitting billing documentation.
- Providing advice and support on costs matters, and responding to cost assessment requirements.
- Drafting various legal aid claims, inter partes bill of costs, and schedule of costs.
- Preparation of points of reply, cost budgets, negotiating settlements of costs.
- Providing support and advice to fee earners and to the billing team where required.
- Providing training and ensuring compliance with file management.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Costs Lawyer.
- In-depth understanding of LAA cost assessment guidance and relevant legislation.
- Experience of fixed fee schemes, application of enhancements and rates under the legal aid scheme.
- Experience of handling own costs caseload from start to finish.
- Computer literate, including knowledge of using costs drafting software.
- Committed team player, self-motivated and professional.
