You will be working for a leading specialist law firm with a recognised reputation in family and children law. The firm advises clients on a wide range of family matters including divorce and international family law cases. Known for its expert legal guidance and client-centred approach, the firm works with a broad range of clients and is committed to delivering cutting-edge services to its legally-aided clients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing legal aid billing and cost recovery, ensuring compliance with LAA requirements and procedural rules.
  • Preparing and submitting billing documentation.
  • Providing advice and support on costs matters, and responding to cost assessment requirements.
  • Drafting various legal aid claims, inter partes bill of costs, and schedule of costs.
  • Preparation of points of reply, cost budgets, negotiating settlements of costs.
  • Providing support and advice to fee earners and to the billing team where required.
  • Providing training and ensuring compliance with file management.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Costs Lawyer.
  • In-depth understanding of LAA cost assessment guidance and relevant legislation.
  • Experience of fixed fee schemes, application of enhancements and rates under the legal aid scheme.
  • Experience of handling own costs caseload from start to finish.
  • Computer literate, including knowledge of using costs drafting software.
  • Committed team player, self-motivated and professional.
