established organisation with an important public-interest remit and a strong
reputation for undertaking complex and sensitive work.
The legal team works
closely with a range of specialist professionals on matters varying
considerably in scale and complexity. This creates a genuinely interesting
environment in which lawyers can develop specialist knowledge, work with
colleagues from different professional backgrounds and gain exposure to senior
stakeholders.
The culture is
friendly, supportive and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on work-life
balance and professional development.
Your new roleWorking within a
specialist enforcement function, you will support the progression of complex
contentious matters and investigations as part of multidisciplinary case teams. The caseload is
varied. You could contribute to large, complex and high-profile matters
alongside more focused cases that offer the opportunity to build deeper
technical knowledge. You will work closely with senior lawyers and other
specialists, giving you significant exposure while still having the autonomy to
take responsibility for key areas of work.
Responsibilities will
include: Providing high-quality legal
advice and analysis on complex contentious matters. Reviewing and analysing
significant volumes of information and evidence. Supporting the development of
case strategy and helping to drive investigations forward. Working collaboratively with
lawyers and other technical specialists. Instructing and working with
counsel, experts and external solicitors where required. Supporting preparation for
hearings and other formal proceedings. Taking ownership of discrete
workstreams within larger, complex cases. Potentially supervising and
supporting more junior members of the team as the role develops. Although you will work
closely with senior lawyers, this is not a passive supporting role. The team is
looking for someone who will understand the wider objectives of a matter, ask
the right questions, identify what needs to happen next and proactively move
their work forward. What you'll need to succeedYou will be a
qualified lawyer with significant experience in litigation, disputes,
investigations and/or contentious regulatory work. The organisation is
deliberately keeping an open mind on background and is interested in lawyers
coming from private practice, in-house, regulatory and public-sector
environments.
You are likely to
bring: Significant post-qualification
experience, ideally around 6+ years' PQE (guidelines only), although overall depth and
relevance of experience will be more important than an exact number of
years. Strong contentious, litigation
or disputes experience. Excellent analytical skills and
the ability to get to grips with complex technical subject matter. Strong written and verbal
communication skills, including the confidence to work with both legal and
non-legal specialists. The judgement to understand
wider objectives and make progress without needing continual direction. A proactive, self-starting
approach, with the confidence to ask questions, put yourself forward and
identify where you can add value. The ability to work
collaboratively and effectively as part of a wider case team. Experience within
financial services, financial disputes, professional negligence, insolvency or
regulatory work would be particularly relevant, but direct regulatory
experience is not essential.
Most importantly, the
organisation is looking for an experienced lawyer who combines strong technical
capability with curiosity, initiative and a genuine willingness to get
involved. The formal specification similarly seeks a qualified solicitor or
barrister with significant disputes/contentious regulatory experience alongside
strong legal, analytical, communication and judgement skills. What you'll get in returnThis is an opportunity
to undertake complex, meaningful legal work with a genuine public-interest
dimension, while joining an environment that offers strong senior exposure and
the chance to broaden your knowledge.
The role offers: 91,100 salary. Permanent employment. Hybrid working, with office
attendance expected for at least four days per fortnight for full-time
employees. 30 days' annual leave, flexible
bank holidays and the ability to purchase additional leave. 10% employer pension
contribution. Employee Assistance Programme. Cycle to Work scheme. A strong emphasis on work-life
balance. Exposure to complex and
high-profile contentious matters. The opportunity to learn from
experienced lawyers and other specialist professionals. What you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
