Your new company Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a two-form entry primary school in Warrington that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated teaching assistant for a full-time temporary contract that will last the remainder of the academic year. This is an extremely supportive and welcoming school that requires an experienced SEN teaching assistant to join the KS2 designated provision on a full-time temporary basis.

Within this role you will play an integral part in the education and development of a class of 14 pupils with ASD and communicative needs ranging from selective mutism to non-verbal. You will work in collaboration with the class teacher/SENCO and other teaching assistants to ensure that each pupil reaches their full academic potential and developmental needs. You will use a pupil-led curriculum with your core duties including:

  • Use of PECs, Makaton and objective references to boost speech and language / communication
  • Identifying pupil trigger points and implementing positive behaviour strategies prior to escalation, i.e., sensory play/stimuli, traffic light systems, positive reinforcement, etc
  • Direct liaison with pupil's parents/guardians, including attending parents' evenings
  • Supporting during break and lunch times
  • Supporting with assisted toileting

To be considered in your application, you must have full 'Right to Work' in the UK, a minimum of 40 days referenceable classroom experience within the last 2 years, and:

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN (ASD and non-verbal is highly advantageous)
  • Experience using PECs, Makaton and other communicative aids
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification
