Hays is working with a leading engineering contractor delivering complex civil and infrastructure schemes. They are seeking a Geotechnical / Structural Engineer with strong drainage experience to support the design, assessment, and delivery of drainage and earthworks packages on major projects. This role will suit an engineer with a solid background in geotechnics and structural principles, combined with practical drainage design and site support experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Geotechnical and structural assessment to support drainage and earthworks design
  • Design and checking of surface water and foul drainage systems
  • Interpretation of ground investigation data and geotechnical reports
  • Input into temporary and permanent works related to drainage and substructures
  • Liaison with designers, site teams, and external stakeholders
  • Supporting construction activities with technical advice and problem solving
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, specifications, and approvals

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in geotechnical and/or structural engineering with drainage focus
  • Strong understanding of UK drainage standards and specifications
  • Experience interpreting GI data and ground risk
  • Familiarity with Eurocodes, BS standards, and industry guidance
  • Ability to work collaboratively across design and construction teams

Desirable

  • ICE or equivalent professional membership (or working towards)
  • Experience on infrastructure, highways, rail, or utilities projects
  • Temporary works or earthworks design exposure
  • Site-based engineering experience
