Operating through a multidisciplinary team of specialists, the business delivers a wide range of services including environmental permitting, planning and environmental impact assessment, waste and mineral development, contaminated land, geotechnical engineering and water management. The organisation is recognised for its technical expertise, commercial awareness and commitment to quality, supporting clients in navigating evolving legislation and delivering robust, sustainable outcomes across a diverse portfolio of projects.
As a Principal Consultant (or Senior with a view to Principal Level) within Environmental Permitting, you will take a lead technical and commercial role, driving high-quality outputs across multidisciplinary projects.
Main duties include:
- Deliver technical expertise in environmental permitting across a range of projects
- Lead and manage permit applications, risk assessments, and regulatory submissions
- Oversee environmental projects, ensuring delivery to time, budget, and quality standards
- Support and mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and review
- Interpret environmental monitoring data and produce clear, accurate reports
- Liaise with clients, regulators (e.g. Environment Agency), and other stakeholders
- Advise clients on environmental legislation and compliance requirements
- Manage site based activities including inspections and environmental monitoring
- Contribute to multidisciplinary project work and complex environmental assessments
- Support business development, proposals, and client relationship management
What you'll need to succeed:
- Proven experience in Environmental Permitting and regulatory frameworks
- Strong knowledge of Environmental Permitting Regulations, PPC, and Waste Management Licensing
- Experience within waste management and/or industrial sectors (e.g. landfill, treatment, recovery, hazardous waste)
- Ability to prepare and review permit applications, risk assessments, and technical reports
- Experience interpreting environmental monitoring data
- Strong project management skills, including delivering to time and budget
- Experience liaising with regulators (e.g. Environment Agency), clients, and stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to mentor or support junior team members (Senior/Principal level)
- Relevant degree in an environmental or scientific discipline
- Professional membership (e.g. CIWM) desirable
- Full UK driving licence
