My client is a small multidisciplinary surveying firm with 26 experienced and friendly staff. They are forward-thinking, young and dynamic, providing an opportunity to mould a career and truly flourish. They have various survey services and are now looking to add BNG assessments to that list.
Your new role involves working with a range of architects, planners, developers, and construction companies, based in NW Leicestershire with hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage planning projects with a specific focus on achieving Biodiversity Net Gain.
- Provide expert advice on biodiversity conservation and enhancement strategies to clients.
- Conduct BNG assessments and ecological surveys to identify biodiversity and habitat types on sites and their BNG potential.
- Develop and implement Biodiversity Net Gain strategies in alignment with relevant legislation, metrics, and best practices.
- Build and maintain relationships with Local Planning Authorities, conservation organisations, Wildlife Trusts, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with surveyors to integrate biodiversity considerations into projects.
- Prepare technical reports for planning submission, condition discharge, and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in biodiversity conservation and planning policy.
- Conduct site-based surveys and monitoring across the Midlands and occasionally further afield.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Ecology, Planning, or a related subject. MSc desirable.
- FISC 3 qualification or higher.
- Some membership with CIEEM.
- Experience in a consultancy environment working on ecology/BNG projects.
- Strong understanding of biodiversity legislation, including national and local policies.
- Proven experience in managing projects focused on Biodiversity Net Gain and working with tools like the Statutory Metric.
- Familiarity with ecological principles, habitat assessments, and species surveys.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical information to various audiences.
- Experience in engaging with government bodies and local authorities.
- Proficiency in planning software such as GIS and ecological modelling tools, alongside Microsoft Office Suite.
- Full UK Driving licence and willingness to travel for site work.
- Salary: £30,000 - £60,000 - Dependent on experience.
- 32 holidays (including bank holidays).
