Your new company Hays is proud to be working with a family-owned trade organisation in their search for an Assistant Management Accountant to join their finance team. The business is known for its reliability, strong customer relationships, and a collaborative working culture. This position involves a broad range of finance duties, with a significant emphasis on communication with contractors, tradespeople, and site-based teams. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of daily financial operations and maintain strong customer relationships. Some of the key duties will include:

  • Credit Control, exploring discrepancies, monitoring aged debt and following up on outstanding payments.
  • Speaking daily with both internal and external teams to follow up on information.
  • Processing purchase invoices, sales invoices and supplier statements.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and support with cash flow monitoring.
  • Assisting with month end routines, including accruals, prepayments and journal postings.
  • Maintain accurate ledgers and resolving discrepancies.
  • Supporting the preparation of management information and financial reports.
  • General finance administration, updating documentation and maintaining files.
  • Liaising with internal teams such as sales, warehouse and operations to ensure accurate financial flow.

This job would be perfect for someone with experience in practical construction, manufacturing, engineering or similar fast paced environments. Strong communications skills, a 'can do' approach and the ability to be adaptable is essential for this position. Some of the other key things we are looking for would be:

  • Part Qualified in CIMA / ACCA or actively progressing studies.
  • Experience of some credit control or a willingness to take on this aspect of the role.
  • Previous experience of working in a Finance function within trade, construction, manufacturing, industrial-aligned settings would be beneficial to this job.
  • Confident communicator able to engage effectively with contractors, tradespeople, on-site and internal teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced role, to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working for an organisation where teamwork and mutual support is part of the culture.
