Your new company is a high-quality residential developer delivering well-designed homes across the South East. With a strong history and multiple regional offices, they are now looking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their established Commercial team. This is a replacement role within a stable and supportive business, offering excellent exposure to live and upcoming residential developments. Working across Kent, Sussex and Surrey, projects are typically in the 80-150 unit range, traditional build bespoke units aimed at the higher end of the market.
Your new role involves reporting to the Commercial Manager, acting as Assistant Surveyor for designated sites within the region while supporting the Senior Surveying Manager with the financial performance and profitability of developments. Key responsibilities will include:
- Producing accurate estimates, budgets, forecasts and cost control measures.
- Monitoring site performance against original plans, budgets and financial targets.
- Preparing cost reports and key date updates to deadlines.
- Communicating closely with internal teams including sales, land, construction and architects.
- Liaising with the Construction Director and Customer Service Manager on prelims, sales budgets, payments and costs.
- Raising subcontract orders and processing payments.
- Negotiating with contractors and investigating cost variances.
You will take responsibility (under guidance) for two live sites in Kent and gain further exposure by assisting on a larger, multi-unit scheme in West Sussex.
What you'll need to succeed: You will have experience working in a similar Assistant Quantity Surveyor role for a UK housebuilder, a minimum HNC in Building Studies (or equivalent), and strong IT skills including experience of Coins/Site Stream or similar commercial software. RICS accreditation and/or a degree in Quantity Surveying would be favourable but are not essential. Above all, you will be looking for a long-term career move in the housebuilding sector and committed to growing up as an assistant QS to a more senior role.
What you'll get in return: A permanent role with a respected residential developer, an opportunity to manage live sites while developing under experienced commercial leadership. Exposure to a range of traditional build, multi-unit and enabling works schemes, hybrid working model with flexibility across office, site and home. Clear opportunity to increase responsibility and progress based on performance.
