Reporting into the CFO t he International Indirect Tax Specialist will support the newly created online business as it grows across multiple markets, ensuring that VAT, GST, sales tax and other indirect tax obligations are identified, understood and managed effectively. The role will partner closely with Finance, Legal, Product, Publishing, Technology, Commercial and external advisers to embed compliant and scalable indirect tax processes into online sales, digital services, product export and import as well as marketplace activity and customer-facing systems. Given the need to recruit quickly, candidates on a short notice or those that are immediately available would be sought after. Key responsibilitiesAct as the subject matter expert for international indirect tax matters affecting the whole business, including VAT, GST, sales tax, digital services taxes, import/export taxes, marketplace rules and platform-related obligations.Assess the indirect tax implications of online sales models, new product launches, international expansion, promotions, customer journeys, payment flows and changes to terms of sale.Support VAT/GST registrations, filings, reconciliations and compliance processes across relevant jurisdictions, working with local advisers and internal finance teams as required.Partner with Product, Technology and Data teams to define tax requirements for e-commerce platforms, billing systems, tax engines, checkout flows, invoices and customer communications.Monitor changes in indirect tax legislation and guidance across key markets and translate them into practical business actions, controls and system requirements.Support the management of tax authority enquiries, audits and disclosures relating to indirect tax matters internationally.Develop and maintain indirect tax policies, process documentation, controls and training materials for teams involved in online trading and customer transactions.Work with Legal and Commercial teams to review contracts, marketplace arrangements, reseller models, agency structures and cross-border supply chains from an indirect tax perspective.Identify opportunities to improve compliance, reduce risk and simplify processes through automation, data quality improvements and better governance.Provide clear, pragmatic advice to senior stakeholders on indirect tax risks, options and recommendations.What you'll need to succeed A member of a recognised tax or accounting body with a recognised tax qualificationStrong experience in indirect tax, ideally gained in a multinational, e-commerce, digital platform, retail, technology or online marketplace environment.Good working knowledge of VAT/GST rules across multiple jurisdictions, with the ability to interpret new rules and apply them to practical business scenarios.Experience advising on cross-border B2C and B2B transactions, digital services, marketplace rules, distance selling, imports, exports and customer location evidence.Experience working with tax engines, ERP systems, billing platforms, e-commerce systems or data analytics tools would be advantageous.Professional tax, accounting or legal qualification preferred, or equivalent experience in an indirect tax advisory or compliance role.Experience managing external advisers and working with tax authorities would be beneficial.What you'll get in return A competitive salary and benefits and hybrid working.
