Your new company
Hays are pleased to be partnering exclusively with an organisation who are seeking a highly experienced Interim Director of Estates to join their team on a temporary basis. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation and strategic management of our estate during the transition period until a permanent Director is appointed. The team are currently recruiting for the permanent Director, with interviews taking place in the new year.
Your new role As the Interim Director of Estates, you will;
- Oversee the management and maintenance of the organisation’s estate, ensuring all facilities are safe, efficient, and conducive to learning.
- Lead and manage a large team, including 8-9 direct reports and a total staff of up to 170.
- Supervise teams responsible for capital projects, assets, compliance, facilities management, and sustainability.
- Develop and implement short-term strategies to address immediate operational needs.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage budgets and resources effectively to optimise the performance of the estate.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the estate meets the needs of the university community.
- Travel between six sites as required, with a primary base at one of the two main locations.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Proven experience in a senior estates management role, preferably within the higher education sector.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ability to manage budgets and resources efficiently.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
What you’ll get in return
This is an initial 3-6 month contract starting in January. Flexible working arrangements are available, though the role requires on-site presence at least three days per week. You’ll receive an excellent day rate though please note this position is inside IR35.
