Hays Education is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a good secondary school in South Yorkshire for a dedicated and ambitious Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). This is a permanent leadership opportunity for an experienced teacher who is passionate about inclusion and committed to improving outcomes for students with additional needs.
The role:
- Provide strategic leadership for SEND provision across the school, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that all students receive high-quality, inclusive support.
- Play a pivotal role in shaping policy, practice and culture to ensure that pupils with SEND are fully supported to achieve their potential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership of SEND provision across the secondary age range
- Oversight of EHCPs, SEND reviews and statutory compliance
- Development, implementation and evaluation of inclusive teaching practices
- Line management and development of SEND and support staff
- Working closely with teachers to support high-quality, adaptive classroom practice
- Liaising with parents, carers, external agencies and local authorities
- Monitoring progress and impact to ensure positive outcomes for students with SEND
The ideal candidate will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- The National Award for SEN Coordination (or a commitment to complete it)
- Experience of leading or coordinating SEND provision in a secondary setting
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
- Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
- A commitment to inclusive education and continuous school improvement
