Hays Education is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a good secondary school in South Yorkshire for a dedicated and ambitious Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). This is a permanent leadership opportunity for an experienced teacher who is passionate about inclusion and committed to improving outcomes for students with additional needs.

The role:

  • Provide strategic leadership for SEND provision across the school, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that all students receive high-quality, inclusive support.
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping policy, practice and culture to ensure that pupils with SEND are fully supported to achieve their potential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic leadership of SEND provision across the secondary age range
  • Oversight of EHCPs, SEND reviews and statutory compliance
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of inclusive teaching practices
  • Line management and development of SEND and support staff
  • Working closely with teachers to support high-quality, adaptive classroom practice
  • Liaising with parents, carers, external agencies and local authorities
  • Monitoring progress and impact to ensure positive outcomes for students with SEND

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • The National Award for SEN Coordination (or a commitment to complete it)
  • Experience of leading or coordinating SEND provision in a secondary setting
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
  • Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • A commitment to inclusive education and continuous school improvement
