The Opportunity
Hays are currently working with a well-established building services contractor to recruit an Electrical Estimator to join their growing commercial team. This is a great opportunity for a detail-driven and commercially aware individual to play a key role in cost planning, tendering, and project delivery, supporting the continued growth of the business.
The Role
As an Electrical Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates across a range of projects. You will work closely with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure pricing reflects both market conditions and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents to prepare detailed cost estimates
- Develop pricing for labour, materials, plant, and subcontract packages
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
- Prepare and submit professional tender proposals and cost breakdowns
- Monitor and update project costs as scope evolves
- Support negotiations to secure best value on materials and services
- Carry out market research to track material costs and industry trends
- Support cost control and commercial decision-making throughout the project life cycle
- Prepare reports and documentation for internal review
About You
- Proven experience in electrical estimating within the construction or building services sector (essential)
- Strong understanding of cost control and commercial processes
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Good working knowledge of Excel and estimating software
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confident communicator with the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders
- Analytical mindset with a focus on identifying cost efficiencies
- On-site experience is beneficial, but not essential
