Your new company

We have a great opportunity for a shift technician working at a busy port. This is a hands-on technical role responsible for keeping port equipment, cruise-terminal assets, and cargo-handling systems running safely and reliably across rotating shifts: early and 13.30 late shift, 2 and 3 days over a 21-day rotating period.

Your new role

  • Participate in pre-shift inspections of cruise-terminal and operational assets such as fenders, passenger boarding bridges, and gangways.
  • Manage berth preparation for cruise ship arrivals, including positioning and checking boarding bridges and gangways.
  • Reactive maintenance across the port - responding to breakdowns, equipment failures, and urgent repairs to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Offer support for vessel arrival and departure, including installing boarding bridges, crew gangways, and water supply connections.
  • Maintenance of mobile plant and container-handling equipment (for ports focused on cargo operations), including troubleshooting motors, variable-speed controllers, and mechanical systems.
  • Working to strict safety systems, especially when dealing with heavy machinery, heights, and moving equipment.
  • Some facilities' maintenance including lighting, water systems and public services across the port area.

What you'll need to succeed

  • NVQ Level 3 or ONC in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Ability to work at heights and in industrial environments.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience with fault-finding, reactive repairs, and modern maintenance strategies (e.g., RCM, CBM, TPM) for more engineering-heavy roles.

What you'll get in return

A salary of £42500, plus regular enhanced overtime, enhanced pension following probationary period, sick pay scheme, 32 days holiday increasing with service.
