Hays are representing a well-established specialist engineering organisation to recruit a Design Engineer to join their growing design team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable engineer looking to develop their career within a business recognised for delivering innovative smoke control, ventilation, climate technology and façade ventilation solutions across a wide range of building types.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing cost-effective, regulation-compliant engineering solutions within agreed timescales. The role requires a strong understanding of building regulations, British and European Standards, and the ability to interpret architectural, mechanical and electrical information.
You will be providing technical input throughout the project life cycle - from concept and design through to commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Design smoke control, ventilation and performance louvre systems for a variety of building types
- Provide technical advice to internal teams and external customers by phone and email
- Ensure designs align with current drawings, specifications, employer's requirements and scope
- Manage technical queries via the RFI process
- Design ductwork systems including fan selection and pressure drop calculations
- Prepare proposals and undertake Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis where required
- Produce technical submissions and design documentation
- Support project managers, installers and commissioning engineers with design queries
- Attend internal and external technical meetings
- Support site demonstrations, smoke tests and commissioning activities
Experience Required
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical and construction drawings
- Experience designing ventilation systems
- Experience working within the construction industry
Skills
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions at all levels
- Strong problem-solving capability
- Competent with Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
