Your new role Reporting into the Financial Accounting function, the Financial Accountant - Tax will provide specialist support across a broad range of tax and financial accounting activities, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements while delivering a high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
The role combines technical expertise with operational responsibility, involving the coordination of complex processes, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and helping to ensure the University's financial activities remain aligned with strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities Support the University's tax compliance across VAT, corporation tax and other relevant taxation matters.
Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and financial reporting requirements.
Contribute to audit processes and respond to information requests from external auditors and regulatory bodies.
Support treasury management activities, including cash flow forecasting and covenant monitoring.
Provide financial oversight and reporting support relating to subsidiary entities and spin-out investments.
Coordinate and improve financial processes to enhance efficiency, controls and compliance.
Develop strong relationships with stakeholders across the University and provide expert financial advice where required.
Ensure financial activities comply with relevant legislation, accounting standards and University policies.
What you'll need to succeed The successful candidate will be: A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).
Experienced in financial accounting, tax compliance or external audit.
Technically strong with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Able to interpret complex financial regulations and communicate effectively to a range of stakeholders.
Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Passionate about continuous improvement and delivering high-quality financial services.
