What awaits you?

  • Responsible for development and automation of the AWS Data Warehouse and Analytics Solutions.
  • Create a Centre of Excellence for Data Architecture in the Data Analytics function and drive awareness of Data Architecture requirements and techniques in the wider business.
  • Design, build, optimise, and maintain a Data Architecture which helps deliver the organisations data strategy and supports complex data analytic/data science services.
  • Investigate and identify business opportunities that will derive value from these complex data analytics initiatives.
  • Lead and steer development of data science services. Lead and mentor the data scientists and data analysts.
  • Design and develop a Customer Data Architecture that captures the business requirements for the full customer journey lifecycle, enables customer profiling and customer segmentation, and incorporates sharing of customer data with the NSC.
  • Design and develop data structures, models and frameworks within the Enterprise Data Model, ensuring re-use and consistency of data models.
  • Design, maintain and document key database schemas and inter-dependencies within the Enterprise Data Model.
  • Investigate, assess, and recommend IT tools to support data governance including data lineage tools, master, and meta data management tools.
  • Implement IT tools to support data governance with respect to Enterprise Data Model, to create transparency so that the data can be effectively accessed and utilised by data analysts and data scientists.
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of the transactional and Enterprise Data Model databases and data lake/warehouse concepts, design principles, architecture, and software.
  • Analyse strategic data architecture requirements from the existing transactional system landscape and those arising from new software and applications.
  • Oversee migration of data from legacy transactional systems to the Enterprise Data Model.
  • Lead the process of preparation of source data in a suitable structure (semantic layer) for consumption by visualisation tools and analytic processes.
  • Define and implement tools, standards and best practices to seamlessly integrate data from structured and non-structured data sources into the Enterprise Data Model and promote holistic sharing of data across the combined organisation and with the NSC.
  • Analyse the business requirements to architect, design and develop highly efficient and scalable ETL (Extract Transform Load) processes.
  • Embed real-time, automated data collection, data quality checks, validations, exceptional handling and alerting across all data ingestion processes.
  • Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality.
  • Research and acquire new data sources to enhance the scope of the Enterprise Data Model.
  • Proactively share knowledge of the Enterprise Data Model with the wider Data & Insights team and promote a culture of inclusivity and shared architecture decisions.

Skills & Experience:

  • Educated to degree level in a numerical discipline - Computer Science/Statistics/Maths qualification preferred.
  • Ideally with a master's degree in computer science, data analytics or statistical modelling.
  • Programming or data visualisation qualification.
  • Strong experience in working with data (both the theory and practical application) - preferably as a data engineer, data scientist, data analyst, data architect, data modeller, or another similar role.
  • Strong experience of data modelling (from conception to optimisation), and of the design and management of Enterprise Data Models on the AWS Platform, including the ability to design and lead development of automated processes.
  • Experience of managing and facilitating significant technological change.
  • Experience with the full cycle of software development and with working with third-party and offshore delivery teams.
  • Experience of stakeholder management and proven ability to develop trusted relationships with business partners at all levels.
  • Experience of communicating complex data and solutions in a clear and understandable way to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience of working with compliance and regulation in a Financial Services environment to ensure good governance of company data.
  • Excellent SQL, Python and other data wrangling techniques.
  • Proven ability in core Data Architecture skills including Data Analysis, Data Mining, Data Profiling, Data Modelling (ERD, Dimensional), Data Warehouse Design (Kimball, Inmon), Big Data Design (Lambda, Kappa), Predictive Analytics, Data Lifecycle management, Data Integration patterns and methods.
  • In depth knowledge of AWS Big Data Storage Strategies and Technologies and knowledge of some of the following AWS services: Athena, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3, Neptune, SDLF, etc.
  • Detailed understanding of relational databases and database structure principles.
  • Ability to design and implement ETL and ELT processes.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, handle quickly changing priorities, and be capable of managing yourself to achieve maximum results.
  • Strong technical skills, with the ability to problem solve and design innovative technical solutions that meet challenging and sometimes conflicting requirements.
  • Knowledge of data management and governance principles including Master Data Management.
  • Ability to inspire, support, encourage and enable curiosity in data.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive hourly wage plus an annual performance-related bonus. You will receive a generous annual leave up to 35 days which is inclusive of bank holidays. There's free on-site parking available and you'll have access to a subsidised restaurant. We offer hybrid working where employees split their time between working remotely (often from home) and working in the office.
