Interim Accountant Final Accounts & Capital Programme
Location: Exeter (Hybrid or Remote)
Rate: Up to £300 per day
Duration: 6 months | Start: ASAP
Hays are seeking an experienced interim finance professional to support our clients year-end closedown and strengthen their capital programme reporting during a critical period. This role provides essential capacity to ensure they meet their Final Accounts obligations, produce a high-quality CIPFA-compliant Statement of Accounts, and maintain strong oversight of our capital programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support year-end closedown and production of the Statement of Accounts (CIPFA Code).
- Prepare technical journals, reconciliations, and audit-ready working papers.
- Liaise with external auditors and manage information requests.
- Oversee capital accounting including asset register, valuations, impairments, and capital financing.
- Monitor capital programme spend, forecasts, risks, and reporting.
- Strengthen processes, controls, and documentation across Final Accounts and capital areas.
About You
- Significant Local Government finance experience at senior/principal level - Proven delivery of year-end closedown and CIPFA-compliant accounts.
- Strong capital accounting and capital programme reporting skills.
- Ideally CCAB qualified (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent experience.
Working Arrangements
- Hybrid or remote working available.
- Occasional visits to Exeter for key meetings.
