Site Maintenance Operative / CaretakerLocation: HampshireSalary: Β£28,712 - Β£29,918 per annum (including shift allowance)Contract: Permanent, Full TimeStart Date: ASAPHays Education is working with a well-established Multi-Academy Trust in Hampshire to recruit a proactive and reliable Site Maintenance Operative to join their Estates team.This is a varied and rewarding role supporting multiple educational settings across the trust. No two days are the same. One day you could be carrying out maintenance repairs, decorating classrooms, maintaining outdoor spaces, or assisting with site security and lettings. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring school environments remain safe, secure, and welcoming for staff, students, and visitors.Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out general maintenance and repair work across multiple school sites.
- Complete painting and decorating tasks.
- Undertake basic carpentry, fencing, ground maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Operate ground maintenance equipment and power tools safely.
- Assist with site security, waste management, and care taking duties
- Support health and safety inspections and compliance activities
- Report maintenance and safety issues promptly
- Provide support to community lettings and facility users during evening and weekend shifts
- Work collaboratively within a close-knit estates team to maintain high standards across all sites
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience in maintenance, care taking, facilities, estates, construction, or a similar hands-on role
- Ability to carry out a range of basic repairs and maintenance tasks independently
- Strong understanding of health and safety practices
- Practical, proactive approach with excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and manage workload effectively
- Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern, including occasional weekends
Shift PatternThis role operates on a rota basis, including:
- Early shifts: 7:00am - 3:30pm
- Day shifts: 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Late shifts: 2:30pm - 10:30pm
- One weekend per month
