Hays are recruiting on behalf of a well-established local authority for a Payroll Officer to join their busy finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a large and diverse organisation, supporting the delivery of payroll and pension services for a wide range of employees.
Your new role
As Payroll Officer, you will support the delivery of accurate and timely payroll and pension services, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and internal procedures.
Key duties will include
- Processing weekly, monthly and elected member payrolls within agreed deadlines.
- Supporting the administration of payroll, pensions and employee expenses.
- Processing payments through BACS and ensuring payroll records are maintained accurately.
- Assisting with pension-related administration and statutory payroll requirements.
- Acting as a key point of contact for managers and departments regarding payroll queries.
- Preparing payroll reports and providing financial information as required.
- Helping to ensure payroll services are delivered efficiently and in line with organisational objectives.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation, terms and conditions of employment, and pension regulations.
- Supporting service continuity by providing cover within the payroll team when required.
- Ensuring confidentiality is maintained, and all payroll information is handled in accordance with data protection requirements.
- What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you will have
- Five GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent, including English Language and Maths.
- AND
- A minimum of 2years' payroll experience within a large, multi-disciplinary organisation, including:
- Delivering payroll and pension services.
- Cash handling responsibilities.
- Using payroll or finance systems such as Sage, Total or similar packages.
- Gathering data and producing reports.
- 3 years' relevant payroll experience if you do not hold the above educational qualifications.
You will also require
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to strict deadlines.
