Design Manager
3 Month Rolling Contract
Birmingham - 3 Days Per Week on-site
We are looking for a Design Manager to join our client on a contract basis. This role is with a major UK-based infrastructure services, engineering consultancy, and operations partner.
The role ensures that design outputs are delivered on time and in alignment with National Grid specifications and client governance. You will be working across multiple projects, supporting design planning, programme management, stakeholder coordination and design assurance activities.
Your Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain and issue the design programme for all schemes.
- Proactively monitor progress, highlight deviations, and implement recovery strategies.
- Provide oversight for compliance with internal procedures, standards and CDM.
- Identify design impacts on cost, programme and risk, and support forecasting
- Lead design review meetings and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams
- Identify and manage design risk, including temporary and permanent works considerations
- Ensuring that tender designs and proposals are robust, compliant and commercially defensible
Who we're looking for:
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate design inputs across multi‑disciplinary teams, ensuring alignment, clarity and timely delivery
- Proven experience supporting or managing design‑related activities across a portfolio of projects, ideally within the UK transmission or major infrastructure sector
- Familiarity with National Grid standards, processes, assurance pathways and stakeholder expectations
- Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline or Project Management / Construction management or similar
- Experience of working in the UK Energy sector or within highly regulated industries
