A leading construction and development organisation is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to support the delivery of a major commercial building project in central Cambridge. This high-value scheme requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate complex subcontract packages from early works through to completion.
What you'll do
- Manage trade contractors across working drawings, procurement, prefabrication, and on-site performance.
- Oversee subcontractors, labour and material planning, supporting Project Managers with both on-site and off-site activities.
- Coordinate build and MEP trades to ensure smooth sequencing, safe working, and efficient delivery.
- Resolve site issues proactively, reporting defects, identifying improvements, and refining construction methodologies.
- Lead internal works from start on site to handover, ensuring programme, quality, and safety targets are met.
- Manage multiple trade packages including fit-out, MEP, finishes, logistics, and site interfaces.
- Drive collaborative planning sessions to align interior and finishes works with overall project delivery.
- Maintain quality standards, track workmanship, and prevent legacy defects through structured inspections.
- Provide strong site leadership through inductions, toolbox talks, pre-task briefings, and adherence to company procedures.
- Oversee snagging, commissioning and documentation to ensure a smooth and well-prepared handover.
What you'll bring
- Proven experience in construction management on major commercial building projects, ideally with strong exposure to internal packages and finishes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple trade contractors across complex work fronts.
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Professional membership or progression toward it (e.g., MCIOB/ICE) is highly desirable.
- Valid Managers CSCS card and SMSTS along with other relevant industry qualifications.
- Experience delivering commercial office projects and coordinating internal construction packages.
