Hays Construction is currently working in partnership with a well established national residential developer to appoint a Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a programme of works across existing apartment developments throughout Scotland and wider UK locations. Due to continued investment in their residential portfolio, our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to work closely with an existing Managing Quantity Surveyor, providing commercial and project support across multiple live sites.
Your New Role
As a Freelance Quantity Surveyor, you will assist in the commercial management of refurbishment, remedial and lifecycle projects within occupied residential apartment schemes. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Managing Quantity Surveyor with day to day commercial duties
- Assisting with cost control, forecasting and reporting across multiple projects
- Preparing and reviewing variations and final accounts
- Supporting procurement of subcontractors and consultants
- Assisting with valuations and payment processes
- Providing support on programme, progress tracking and basic PM-related duties where required
The role offers exposure to a varied portfolio of residential developments, with flexibility around travel and working arrangements depending on project needs.
What You'll Need to Succeed
To be successful in this role, you will ideally:
- Have proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the residential or housing sector
- Be comfortable working on existing buildings, refurbishment or remediation works
- Demonstrate strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Be confident supporting multiple projects simultaneously
- Have the ability to work collaboratively with site, PM and commercial teams
- Be adaptable and comfortable operating in a freelance environment
