Phoenix is a multi-cultural 11-19 secondary school, serving 1759 students in the north of West Bromwich close to the border with Walsall in the West Midlands. Opened in September 2010, as a result of the merger of two local schools, Phoenix has established itself as one of the highest performing schools in the area, an accolade achieved through commitment to continually improving the quality of teaching and learning and the provision of an exciting and dynamic learning experience for students.
Our students continue to achieve strong outcomes, with our last progress measure at +0.17 for the 2024 cohort, underpinned by the school's sustained focus on curriculum development and high-quality teaching. Phoenix is a school that aspires to turn every child's dream into reality; believes that there is no limit to what can be achieved and succeeds through passion, commitment and determination.
We are seeking to appoint a highly talented and innovative, qualified Leader of Technology to join and lead our friendly and supportive team. You will have a confident understanding of the curriculum and the ability to inspire excellent learning.
The Design Technology department currently offers GCSE Product Design at Key Stage 4. In 2026/27, the department will also continue to support our existing Year 11 cohort completing NCFE Engineering, although this qualification is being phased out as part of our curriculum development. At Key Stage 5, we offer the AAQ Engineering qualification, providing students with a strong vocational pathway into engineering, design, manufacturing and related sectors.
The department benefits from dedicated specialist rooms and equipment, including practical workshop spaces and two classrooms with ICT facilities, supporting both theoretical and practical aspects of the curriculum. The ideal candidate will be educated to a degree level in Design Technology or a closely related subject, with a track record of excellent teaching in this area. Experience in teaching both Level 2 and 3 courses would be advantageous.
As a school we have a fabulous CPD offer to support colleagues at whatever point in their career they are, from our ITT to our senior leaders. We also offer our staff a supportive welfare package including, but not limited to, access to physiotherapy, nurse & doctor appointments and counselling. Phoenix is one of only a few schools nationally to benefit from the government's priority schools building programme and our state-of-the-art facilities are second to none.
The students and staff at Phoenix face an exciting future. If you would like to be part of a school that is committed to becoming the very best, and if you can inspire and motivate our students, you could be the person for this role.
