Your new company Hays are recruiting on behalf of a central government organisation based in Belfast. This is an opportunity to join a busy finance team supporting the delivery of key public sector programmes, offering valuable exposure to government finance, financial reporting and stakeholder management within a large and complex organisation.

Your new role As an Accounting Technician, you will support the finance team with a range of financial reporting and accounting activities, including:

  • Raising sales invoices and purchase orders.
  • Preparing month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and other adjustments.
  • Completing bank reconciliations and processing banking transactions.
  • Assisting with lease accounting and fixed asset reconciliations.
  • Supporting the preparation of monthly, interim and year-end accounts.
  • Assisting with audit preparation and providing supporting documentation.
  • Conducting financial analysis and investigating variances.
  • Supporting grant accounting and associated accrual processes.
  • Responding to financial queries from internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll need to succeed To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A recognised Accounting Technician qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years' post-qualification finance experience gained within the last 5 years.
  • Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting and financial management.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with large datasets and complex spreadsheets.
  • Experience using Oracle Financial Systems or a similar integrated finance system.

Desirable criteria:

  • Previous experience working within the public sector, local government or a similar regulated environment.
