Your new role Finance Assistant (Part-Time)Location: Wells, SomersetSalary: £21,200 - £22,800 (28 hours per week) | £26,500 - £28,500 FTEPermanent PositionLooking for a finance role with variety, purpose and flexibility?An established and respected organisation in the heart of Somerset is seeking a Finance Assistant to join its friendly finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with finance administration or accounts experience who enjoys working with numbers, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the smooth running of a busy closely with the Finance Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring income and expenditure are processed accurately, reconciliations are completed on time, and financial information is maintained to a high standard. Key Responsibilities Income & Banking Process income receipts and banking transactions accurately. Raise and manage sales invoices. Reconcile income from multiple revenue streams. Complete bank and control account reconciliations. Prepare and submit Gift Aid claims. Produce regular income reports and support income-generating teams. Purchase Ledger & Payments Process supplier invoices and expenditure transactions. Ensure invoices are correctly coded and approved. Maintain supplier records and resolve account queries. Prepare payment runs and process supplier payments. Reconcile supplier statements and company card transactions. Cash Handling Oversee weekly cash counting and banking processes. Support volunteers involved in cash counts. Manage petty cash and change floats. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies. Month-End Support Assist with reconciliations, journals and period-end activities. Support the preparation of management accounting information, including accruals and prepayments. General Finance Administration Respond to finance-related queries by phone and email. Maintain accurate procedural documentation. Support continuous improvement of finance systems and processes. Provide cover and support across the wider finance team when required.
What you'll need to succeed We're looking for a proactive and organised individual who enjoys working in a collaborative environment. Essential Skills & Experience Previous experience within a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role. Strong numerical and analytical skills. Excellent attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Desirable Studying towards or qualified in AAT. Experience within a charity or not-for-profit environment. Knowledge of Xero or similar accounting software.
