A public-sector organisation in South Wales is recruiting a Schools Finance Support Officer to support its education finance function on a temporary basis. This role provides direct financial support to schools, working closely with school leadership teams and finance staff to assist with budgeting, monitoring, and regulatory compliance. You will manage a portfolio of schools, helping them plan and control budgets, understand financial pressures, and comply with grant and funding requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide financial advice and support to schools in line with education finance regulations and internal policies
  • Assist with the preparation, monitoring, and review of school budgets, including staffing and income projections
  • Support schools with deficit recovery planning and financial sustainability
  • Reconcile school finance systems with central finance data
  • Support year-end processes and prepare financial information as required
  • Work collaboratively with internal finance, payroll, audit, and education teams

About You

  • A solid finance background, ideally within education or the public sector
  • Strong Excel skills, with confidence working with financial data and models

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, with the ability to travel to schools as required

Working Arrangements

The role will be office-based during the initial training period, with hybrid working available thereafter.
