A highly successful global organisation with a strong local presence in Ayrshire is seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join its close-knit finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. You\’ll be part of a supportive team of six, working closely with an experienced Finance Director who is committed to mentorship and professional development.
Your new role
As Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting month end close and ensuring financial accuracy across a range of accounting activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is part-qualified or planning to begin their professional studies (ACCA, CIMA or similar), and who is eager to advance their skills within a dynamic international environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and posting of journals as part of the month end close process
- Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reporting packs
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
- Work across accounts payable and accounts receivable, helping to clear aged items and streamline processes
- Assist with accruals, prepayments, and general ledger maintenance
- Support internal and external audit requirements
- Contribute to process improvements and strengthen financial controls
- Collaborate with global finance colleagues to ensure the consistency and integrity of financial data
What you\’ll need to succeed
- Experience in a finance support role covering AP, AR, or month end responsibilities
- Ideally part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA) or motivated to begin professional studies
- Strong Excel skills and good understanding of core accounting principles
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, or similar advantageous)
- Confident with reconciliations, variance analysis, and transactional finance activities
- Proactive, eager to learn, and comfortable working within a small, collaborative team
