The Opportunity

I am supporting a Tier 1 contractor to recruit a Site / Setting Out Engineer to support a large, multi‑year environmental infrastructure upgrade. The scheme comprises a 20km+ linear pipeline and associated civil engineering works, delivered across multiple work fronts with sensitive ecological constraints and diverse stakeholders.

Working closely with the Site Manager and Project Engineer, you will take day‑to‑day responsibility for setting out, quality assurance and technical coordination on site-ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately and to specification.

Role Overview

You will provide precise setting out for civil and pipeline activities, manage QA records and as‑built information, and act as a key interface between the delivery team, subcontractors and design partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out setting out for earthworks, drainage, structures, chambers, services and pipeline works.
  • Verify dimensions and tolerances; maintain as‑built surveys and red‑line drawings.
  • Prepare and manage ITPs, test records, inspection sheets and quality documentation.
  • Review drawings, specifications and method statements/RAMS; raise TQs/RFIs where required.
  • Support daily briefings, permits to dig/work and temporary works coordination.
  • Monitor workmanship, materials and productivity; report progress and risks to the Site Manager.
  • Contribute to short‑term planning, look‑aheads and sequencing across multiple work areas.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Site/Setting Out Engineer within civil engineering, utilities, water or pipeline/linear infrastructure.
  • Proficient with total station, GNSS/GPS, levelling and associated survey software.
  • Strong understanding of QA/ITPs, as‑builts, TQs/RFIs and on‑site document control.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations, site H&S and environmental protection measures.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and coordinate with designers and subcontractors.

Qualifications & Training

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • CSCS (Engineering/Professionally Qualified).
  • First Aid at Work; Temporary Works awareness (TWS/TWC desirable).
  • EUSR / SHEA Water and environmental awareness training.
  • Experience on ecologically sensitive or highly regulated utility projects.
